Bill Ferguson is one of the founding members of the Manomet Mystery Riders. After playing hoops one night at Indian Brook school, John “Bid Dog” McCloud suggested to Bill that they take a ride to the Hyde Park Harley Riders, Thursday night run. With a long drive ahead of them to Hyde Park, Bill suggested they start their own Thursday night rides right here in Manomet. They set a date for the first ride the following Thursday. Bill mimeographed flyers to spread the word of their rides and deposited them in helmets wherever he saw a stray bike, a bare telephone pole or shop window. The flyers announced Thursday night “mystery” rides because they didn’t have a clue where they were going (and we still don’t!). |

Bill has had three motorcycles in his lifetime, two of which, he still rides. He began on a 1971 Triumph Bonneville when he was 18 years old; riding it for about 6 months until other priorities took greater precedence in his life, like raising his 3 children. After a 20 year hiatus, he caught the riding bug again and has now racked up over 120,ooo miles in the saddle. Bill has been a committed MMR ever since our humble beginnings 10 years ago. He is currently serving as an E-Board member, a position he has been elected to several times over the years. He was also our Treasurer in 2002, 2006 and 2007. Bill has been our t-shirt sales guy for the past 5 years, coming up with some of our best slogans including, “We’re an ice cream club with a motorcycle problem” and “Take the road less traveled, where the hell am I anyway?” He’s also an active recruiter to our clan. When new members are asked how they heard about us, many will say that Bill told them to come down to a meeting or to come join us on a ride. Bill has always been a leader in the MMR in his various E-Board positions as well as being a Road Captain. I can say with certainty, that Big Bill has led more “mystery” rides for the Manomet Mystery Riders then any other member.
